Confidence That Lasts a Lifetime

When it comes to replacing missing teeth, nothing does it better than dental implants, especially when more than just one tooth needs replacing. What makes them so special? Instead of just restoring the top part of the tooth, the portion you can see, implants bring back the root structure as well, preserving the bone and giving a foundation to create a prosthetic that resembles a natural set of teeth. As a prosthodontist, Dr. Vinson is a certified expert at restoring implants, specifically the all on x type of prosthetics. Schedule a consult today with Dr Vinson to learn more about how the all on x procedure would benefit you!

What Are The Benefits of Removable Prosthetics?

While fixed bridges and All-on-X style prosthetics can be advantageous for many patients, some patients have had removable partials or dentures for a long time and are comfortable with the overall removable design. For them, a new removable restoration is more accessible, easy to clean, and more affordable.

It’s also less invasive, as it doesn’t always require oral surgery except for extractions in the case of full dentures. Almost everyone is a good candidate for dentures and it is a convenient and simple way to restore the smile and functionality of your teeth.

Dentures will fill the missing space where teeth were lost and help patients to enunciate when they speak. It reduces insecurity associated with missing teeth. It also serves as a healing component to reduce swelling and promote the healing of tissue after multiple extractions, and restore a patient’s overall oral health. Many of our patients will combine the use of implants to help retain their removable dentures and help to give the patient more chewing ability.

How Long Do Dentures Last?

Over the normal course of time, both complete and partial dentures will wear and need to be replaced or relined in order to keep the jaw alignment normal. The alignment will slowly change as the bone and gum ridges recede or shrink due to the absence of the teeth. Regular dental examinations with Dr. Vinson are still important for the denture wearer so that the oral tissues can be checked for disease or change.

Full VS. Partial Dentures

What's The Difference?

Full dentures require the extraction of all of the remaining teeth because they are replacing an entire arch of teeth or all of the teeth in the mouth. Comparatively, partial dentures don’t require any extractions and are used to fill in gaps where one or a few teeth are missing.

Partial dentures tend to be connected through a metal framework, whereas full dentures are made of acrylic. Partials also hook onto the abutment teeth with metal clasps to stay in place, while full dentures are held in through natural suction.

Full dentures are only recommended for patients with extensive tooth loss. If some of the patient’s teeth can be maintained and oral health restored, we can fabricate a partial denture to fill in the gaps. Both a complete and partial denture will help restore the support to their face and help mitigate sagging.

Since partials are used for minor tooth loss, their effects are not as extensive, but they can also restore the smile, prevent shifting teeth, and prevent uneven pressure in the mouth which can cause wear and tear on the natural teeth. Both partials and full dentures have a lifespan of approximately 5-10 years and require relines and repairs throughout the years.

What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Dentures can also be fabricated to have built in support from implants, which can greatly aid in retention, comfort and function. This support can range from 2-4 implants with snaps that lock into a denture, all the way to screwed in prostheses that don’t move around or come in and out when you eat. Typically, the snap-on style of dentures are best designed for the lower arch of teeth because the bone is of higher quality to support the in and out movement of the prosthesis. Frequently Asked Questions for All-on-X

How are they different from dentures?

All-on-X dental implants are permanent screwed in prosthetics that are brushed and cleaned like natural teeth, do not have to be taken out, do not need adhesives, are comfortable because they do not press down on your gums, allow you to experience the hot and cold of your food, as well as the taste, allow you to bite with increased force (up to 70% more), so you can eat all of your favorite foods again, prevent bone deterioration and restore your facial features.

Will my results look natural?

Absolutely. This technique gives you permanent teeth that look, feel and function just like real prosthetics. No one will know you have implants unless you tell them. Many of our photos on the website are of natural looking smiles restored with the All-on-X procedure. Visit our before and after page to read stories from real patients who have received dental implant treatment.

What is the success rate of dental implants with this type of procedure?

Published studies show a 98% success rate using All-on-X dental implants. It is very important to keep up with regular hygiene visits to keep the area around the implants clean and disease free. Also, smoking is a major factor in the failure of all dental implants.

When do I get permanent teeth after implants are placed?

As with any surgery, you need time to heal. A temporary set of teeth will be placed on your implants at the time of surgery. Adjustments by Dr Vinson will be made during the healing process, which can take 3-6 months. Once the healing process is complete, your permanent prosthetic will be placed after a series of visits with Dr Vinson to finalize your smile.

What if I just need implants on my bottom arch?

This procedure can be placed on just the upper or lower arch. Dr Vinson will evaluate your specific circumstance and determine if you would benefit from both upper and lower arch surgery, or if you are a candidate for a single arch replacement. This service will be tailored to your individual needs.

What type of cleaning is required after an implant is placed?

Dental implants should be treated like your natural teeth with daily brushing and water-flossing. Our dental hygienists will review oral hygiene instructions with you and will recommend the most appropriate oral hygiene schedule that fits your needs. Implants can’t get cavities, but they can get bone disease, which is why a regular hygiene schedule should be maintained.
