Confidence That Lasts a Lifetime

When it comes to replacing missing teeth, nothing does it better than dental implants, especially when more than just one tooth needs replacing. What makes them so special? Instead of just restoring the top part of the tooth, the portion you can see, implants bring back the root structure as well, preserving the bone and giving a foundation to create a prosthetic that resembles a natural set of teeth. As a prosthodontist, Dr. Vinson is a certified expert at restoring implants, specifically the all on x type of prosthetics. Benefits of

Professional Teeth Whitening

Whether you choose KöR in-office whitening for fast results, or you whiten your teeth at home with custom-fitted trays, professional teeth whitening has a lot of great benefits. First, it can help you feel more confident about your appearance, so you can smile, laugh, and eat around other people without feeling self-conscious.

In addition, KöR whitening from Advanced Dentistry of Mount Pleasant is customized specifically for your level of staining and your desired level of tooth brightness. This means you’ll get much better results compared to DIY, at-home whitening.

Not only that, but professional teeth whitening also reduces tooth sensitivity compared to DIY whitening. It also eliminates the risk of accidentally damaging your teeth or gums by over whitening your teeth. With professional care from Dr. Vinson, you’ll have peace of mind, and you’ll know your smile will stay strong and healthy.

Does teeth whitening

Cause Sensitivity?

Yes, tooth sensitivity is the most common side effect of professional whitening treatments. The reason this happens is that the active ingredient in whitening gels is peroxide (hydrogen or carbamide peroxide). While peroxides do a miraculous job of penetrating the teeth to get rid of deep stains, they also work by demineralizing the teeth.

Your enamel contains minerals such as calcium and phosphate, which are responsible for the strength of your teeth. When demineralization occurs, the teeth become more porous, exposing microtubules in the teeth known as dentin.

Dentinal tubules are found one layer down beneath the enamel and are connected to the nerves and connective tissue in the teeth which are responsible for sensation. Teeth whitening temporarily exposes these dentinal tubules which cause increased sensitivity, especially when consuming foods and drinks at extreme temperatures.

However, within a few days, the teeth will remineralize and the sensitivity will fade. There are preventative measures that can be taken to reduce sensitivity such as using desensitizing gel before getting your teeth whitened. We apply a fluoride treatment after your professional whitening to help prevent this issue. We also recommend using toothpaste for sensitive teeth in the meantime.

How long does

Teeth Whitening Last?

After getting a whitening treatment, you will need to maintain the appearance of your teeth by practicing good oral hygiene, preventing plaque and tartar from building up, and removing surface stains by getting dental cleanings every 6 months.

That is if you want your teeth to stay pearly white for a few years. A whitening treatment can last for up to 3 years with proper care and maintenance. However, without these practices, you could see discoloration starting to creep back in as soon as 6 months post-treatment.

Your teeth are still prone to staining even after having them whitened, so regularly consuming staining foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, and red wine will negatively impact the white appearance of your teeth.

Who is a candidate

For Teeth Whitening?

A good candidate for teeth whitening is an adult who is in good oral health looking to improve discoloration or a yellow hue. Patients who are children, pregnant, breastfeeding, have sensitive teeth, active decay or gum disease, or who are allergic to peroxide do not make good candidates for teeth whitening.

Patients with a lot of dental restorations and fillings should also take into consideration that these are resistant to whitening, unlike your natural teeth. If you have your teeth whitened, they may not match your dental restorations since the shade of your dental work will not be altered.

Is over the counter teeth whitening

Safe For My Teeth?

Most over-the-counter teeth whitening systems are not ADA approved. The danger of using these systems to whiten your teeth is that they have not been tested for safety and efficacy by the American Dental Association, unlike professional whitening treatments.

It is easy to cause damage to your teeth and gums, as well as significant tooth sensitivity with over-the-counter whitening treatments because they can be improperly applied or kept on for too long.

With a dental-grade whitening treatment, we can control how much peroxide is applied and exactly how long to keep it on for. Even with our take-home whitening kits, we provide you with specific written and verbal instructions on exactly what to do, and our kits have been ADA approved as safe to use.

You can be certain that the whitening agents you receive from the dentist will not cause you harm when applied correctly. Over-the-counter whitening agents may contain harmful ingredients, are less effective at whitening the teeth, and do not last as long.

Changing smiles, Changing lives

Before & Afters

Frequently Asked Questions for All-on-X

How are they different from dentures?

All-on-X dental implants are permanent screwed in prosthetics that are brushed and cleaned like natural teeth, do not have to be taken out, do not need adhesives, are comfortable because they do not press down on your gums, allow you to experience the hot and cold of your food, as well as the taste, allow you to bite with increased force (up to 70% more), so you can eat all of your favorite foods again, prevent bone deterioration and restore your facial features.

Will my results look natural?

Absolutely. This technique gives you permanent teeth that look, feel and function just like real prosthetics. No one will know you have implants unless you tell them. Many of our photos on the website are of natural looking smiles restored with the All-on-X procedure. Visit our before and after page to read stories from real patients who have received dental implant treatment.

What is the success rate of dental implants with this type of procedure?

Published studies show a 98% success rate using All-on-X dental implants. It is very important to keep up with regular hygiene visits to keep the area around the implants clean and disease free. Also, smoking is a major factor in the failure of all dental implants.

When do I get permanent teeth after implants are placed?

As with any surgery, you need time to heal. A temporary set of teeth will be placed on your implants at the time of surgery. Adjustments by Dr Vinson will be made during the healing process, which can take 3-6 months. Once the healing process is complete, your permanent prosthetic will be placed after a series of visits with Dr Vinson to finalize your smile.

What if I just need implants on my bottom arch?

This procedure can be placed on just the upper or lower arch. Dr Vinson will evaluate your specific circumstance and determine if you would benefit from both upper and lower arch surgery, or if you are a candidate for a single arch replacement. This service will be tailored to your individual needs.

What type of cleaning is required after an implant is placed?

Dental implants should be treated like your natural teeth with daily brushing and water-flossing. Our dental hygienists will review oral hygiene instructions with you and will recommend the most appropriate oral hygiene schedule that fits your needs. Implants can’t get cavities, but they can get bone disease, which is why a regular hygiene schedule should be maintained.
